Good news is we probably don’t need to. If you plug an AC97 front panel into a HDA motherboard then plugin detection will not work correctly, it may detect devices as not present when they are present and vice-versa and the exact results may depend on what audio is playing.
I second MM General Thanatos’ thanks for this info. Front panel audio design in conjunction azaliia motherboard audio header design is dependant upon the type of audio CODEC being used on the motherboard. As for that warning or frying?

AC97 cables usually have an empty socket in pin location 4. What are you using to listen to the sound and where is it plugged in? He’s also having me run hardware stress tests Furmark, Prime95 etc.
